There was something in the air that night. LAGWAGON, STRUNG OUT, TEN FOOT POLE, TRIGGER HAPPY, ROACH (soon to be RESET, later to be SIMPLE PLAN) were playing. It was everybody's second show in Montreal and it was called THE GREENLAND WINTER NATIONALS. The booker was Paget & Nick from GREENLAND, named after their respect for pot, hence the GREENLAND Winter Nationals. If there was one dude who was ahead of his time as far as the Californian punk-rock revival, it was Paget. Back in 1994, nobody in Montreal looked like a Californian dude. Except Paget. (Ok, well maybe the guys from the DOUGHBOYS did too). Only punk-rock bands from California would look like dudes from California: extra large shorts, baggy t-shirts, surfer wear. Seriously, in those days, nobody would looked like that, dressed like that, talk like that. First of all, there is no beach in Quebec. You can't surf here. And second, you couldn't find that surf and skate wear around here. But Paget already looked like that. He's the first guy to call me: DUDE. I remember thinking: THIS GUY JUST CALLED ME DUDE ?!?! WOW !!! It's 1995, i'm 18 and i'm now a dude. Some cool dude just called me DUDE. I'm a dude. So it is simply fair that Paget's concert was called the GREENLAND WINTER NATIONALS. Because it was his festival and yeah, it was winter time. I always loved TEN FOOT POLE. In those days, i use to write letters the old fashioned way to all my favorite bands to ask them to film their show. TONY PALERMO is the dude from TEN FOOT POLE who answered my letters. I showed up at the show with his letter in hand. CAN I FILM THE SHOW TONY ? CAN I FILM THE SHOW ? Tony's reply: Sure dude. Fuck yeah dude, thanks ! He brought me backstage but didn't give me a pass. He said: If you wanna stay backstage it's ok, but you gotta stay here cuz you won't be able to come back in. NO PROBLEM MY MAN. One band that definately made an impression was TRIGGER HAPPY from Toronto. Man, Alan Nolan, the lead singer from TRIGGER HAPPY had such charisma. If i could have been a lead singer, i'd want to be him. He hand the crowd in his pocket before his band starting to even play one note of their instruments. TRIGGER HAPPY rules. Years later, i became roomate with Curtis the bassplayer. Curtis had played bass for SNFU in during their golden years in the 80s. Curtis was a great roomate. I lived with him for a year or two. So anyways that night, i stayed in the same spot and filmed everybody's show from the same angle. I think it was a pretty good angle. What do you dudes think ?
